Will it get better as my lo gets older ??

Am concerned really that I don't know anyone in my area that have children.

I am a SAHM and get a bit low!!, worry about myself not having anyone to chat to, but in particular worry about my lo.

Will it change once lo starts school and will my lo automatically make friends and therefore will I start to arrange playdays etc. Not sure what will happen.

Have been going to a local toddler group, but haven't really met anyone friendly there. Alot of the parents already have had children and therefore have known each other and have already made their own little groups. Got upset today when I noticed another mother taking her lo to play at someone else's house today. They live nearby. They have had older children going into nursery together.

Just wondered, will it get better. I do try and take my lo to as many groups as I can.

Any advice appreciated, as it can be quite lonely at home for myself and my lo.

Aww hugs to you first. How old is your little one? Have you tried the meet up threads on here? I dont have many friends who I go to with my kids and dont know if it will be any different when they go to school. It is lonely being at home and I am on my 3rd year with no.3 on the way so face a prospective further 4yrs at home. However if you can find yourself even one good friend then it makes all the difference.

Thanks for your message. I have managed to make one friend, don't live that near, and I don't drive. Which is a pain.

I did try a meetup last Summer time through MN there were only three of us and we didn't really have that much in common to be totally honest. Nice enough girls !! but very busy lifes, working etc.

South Wales. But I'm not a Welsh girl, which might have something to do with it. I don't know. Often I feel that something is wrong with me !! Shame really as my lo is lovely and is a happy little soul.

I want to do the best for my lo and feel that I might be letting them down and myself !!!

there is nothing wrong with you but sometimes you have to be a bit bold and sort of throw yourself in there. Hope something works out for you.

Just can't seem to settle here, that is perhaps another reason. Will do my best !!!

How about an NCT group? I found a couple of local ones and tried them both out. I found them both to be really friendly and they organise lots of events. I went to a couple of coffee mornings each week and made a lot of friends there. The Mum's who want to have the sessions on a rota (no pressure if you don't want one at your house).

I did think about the NCT group the other week, but was concerned that my lo was too old and therefore I wouldn't qualify in being able to join.

If I had known about the NCT group before my lo was born then I would have joined, but now my lo is 2. Probably too late.

hi its not too late to join in fact most of the mums will have toddlers too. i also went to some surestart things in my area. i moved here just before getting pregnant and it was really friendly at those. i made myself talk to people even if they didn't talk to me and most people are really glad that someone is talking to them. best to target the ones with a child similar age and just chat bout things two year olds do. some will be unfriendly but most people love talking bout their kids

No - 2 is definitely not too old. Many of the people I met there had children up to 5. One or two Mums carried on going to the meetings when their DC had started school!

I got involved with the Committee who run the local playgroup (a charity) and met lots of nice women - los have to be 2 1/2 for this one though. I think if you are 'working' on something with other adults it helps to form a quicker bond. Whereabouts in S Wales are you - we are considering a move there and I am worried about feeling isolated! Also, we mums do have thin skins I think - often feeling left out - worse in the playground!!
