How can I help my depressed sister?

My sister suffers from bouts of depression, sometimes requiring meds and counselling. The cause was a serious of tragic incidents that happened to her when she was a teen. These bouts have been less frequent over the past few years but recently she seems to be in a bad place, one a lot worse than before. She says she has nothing to look forward to and doesn't want to speak to us (family) as she has nothing to talk about. She works, lives with her boyfriend and on the surface has no major issues. But she isn't happy and I don't know what to do to help. I'm actually a bit scared as she seems to be withdrawing. I live 3 hours away so can't go and see her easily. What can I do to help?

Phone her for a chat, let her talk.
Send her a text to see how she is.
Being depressed is a lot more bearable if you know people care.
What about planning a night out, shopping day or a spa day with her?
You can get some good deals on groupon
If she can't cope with a day out, take her out for lunch maybe?

The worst thing you can do is nothing. Even if she doesn't want to talk or do anything, keep phoning, suggesting etc
