I had first session yesterday and today I feel completely and utterly exhausted, is it that or just coincidence ?

That's normal. Was it a long one to take your history

I recently did this for the second time in my life and was catatonic after !

I had weekly psychotherapy for a year, and after each session I was utterly exhausted and wanted to nap. I was also starving and used to take snacks for the car after. I think it's normal?!

I'm so glad I read this. I had my first session on Monday, giving all my history to the counsellor and although I felt comforted after it I have also felt exhausted.

I find it massively massively draining...but also cathartic.

It's normal for me!

For those of you having regular sessions, do you find the 50mins is often not enough? Plus weekly is such a long stretch for me

Also do you cry a lot?

Sorry for the thread hijack

I felt completely wrung out and it was all I could do just to sit in the garden with a cup of tea. It passed after 3 sessions and although I felt tired it wasn't exhausting like it initially was.

EBearhug · 05/09/2014 20:36

I used to have sessions before work, and there were times when I had to wait before going into the office, so that I stopped crying and looked vaguely normal again.

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 05/09/2014 20:40

Yes, normal. Over time I've learned to kind of stop 10 minutes before the end of a session and pack thoughts back away, compartmwntalise and plan what i need to do for rest of the day. I am usually very forgetful afterwards too, so i plan for that and try to give myself an easy few hours and early night and pre planned following day.

Thanks, it's reassuring it's not just me

I had very emotional meltdown last night, presuming this was linked too
