I've lost over a stone in less than a month and now because I am barely eating snd now worries aswell that it is dangerous to loose that much weight so quickly!

Pandora37 · 08/11/2014 20:28

You haven't failed Closed. If you had a physical condition that your doctor thought you needed stronger medication for you wouldn't hesitate to take it would you. I do understand how you feel though, I hope it makes you feel better soon.

I have no idea what that is on your liver Nat, I think you should ask your GP about it when you next go to see them to go in a bit more detail. Regarding your weight, I lost a stone in less than a month as well. I don't think it's dangerous, unless you were underweight to start with. Just try and focus on maintaining your weight now and not losing any more. Maybe your GP could give you an appetite stimulant? The AD I'm on, mirtazapine, is supposed to help with sleep and it's an appetite stimulant as well. I put half a stone back on in the first 2 weeks of taking it. You can take it at the same time as sertraline. I don't know if mirtazapine would be suitable for you but it's probably worth mentioning your weight loss and lack of appetite to your GP and see if they can help you with that. Try not to worry too much about it, losing a lot of weight with depression is very common. What I would say, if you're not already, is take a vitamin and mineral tablet so you know at least that you're getting some nutrients. Maybe some of those build up milkshakes as well?

Willfeelbettersoon · 08/11/2014 22:16

Sorry to hear you feel like that closed. You most definitely havn't failed. On the contrary, the fact you are taking charge of the situation and doing something about is very admirable. So many people on ads have to go up on their dose to find the right therapeutic level. An increase might make you feel worse initially due to side effects but it will get better. Just keep your regular appointments at gp and take day at a time. All the best with it.

Pandora37 · 11/11/2014 20:52

Hope everyone's doing okay. I've felt a bit numb emotionally the past few days. I don't know if it's the tablets or if it's because I'm tired, or maybe a mixture of both. I can't remember if I felt like this on sertraline or not but it's a strange feeling. I was crying virtually every day last week, I don't know if this numb feeling is better or worse really.

Nervo · 12/11/2014 19:19

Hi folks, can I come here for a bit of support?

I finally went to see a Doctor today about my awful anxiety. He prescribed Sertraline 50mg and I've to go back and see him in two weeks.

He was really lovely and I actually feel a bit better having taken this step.

Anyway, he said to take in the morning so I'll start tomorrow.

Nervo · 12/11/2014 19:24

Oh, and he also prescribed Diazepam as the anxiety might get worse in the first few days. I take it this would be for evenings only - not something to take at work?

Pandora37 · 12/11/2014 20:34

I've never been on diazepam but it's my understanding that it can make you drowsy so I'd take it in the evening or before you go to bed. I think it would be a bad idea to take it if you're going to be driving or got to concentrate for long periods before knowing how it effects you. I think it all depends on what dosage you're on but yes, I'd stick to taking it in the evening if you're only going to be on it for a few days.

Nervo · 12/11/2014 21:04

Thanks Pandora. Smile

I'll leave it until night then.

Nat99 · 12/11/2014 21:58

Hi all I have my op on Monday to remove the polyp in my uterus and so frightend. Of the op and results :( also worried as only had general aenesthetic once and wasn't taking any meds but now on sertraline snd keep resding it can have adverse reaction! x

Willfeelbettersoon · 13/11/2014 19:28

Hi all.
Pandora have you still got the numbness? It's so strange what these meds do sometimes. Not sure I like it but it's early days for us all and apparently it can take several weeks to a few months for everything to settle down.
Nat sorry to hear you got to go through this op. It probably is the last thing you want right now. Could they have waited until you are less anxious. Generally these things are pretty routine and go well but that probably doesn't reassure you and it's natural to be anxious.
Welcome nervo.
I'm nearly at 6 week mark and hoping I was going to feel bit better by now but I'm still having negative side effects?? I think it didn't help changing brands last week. I'm seeing gp tomos so see what he says but I feel like giving up on these tablets ??

Nervo · 13/11/2014 19:57

Thanks WillFeel - I hope you are reassured by your GP tomorrow.

I took my first dose this morning and am glad to have started.

The last few weeks have been going towards this point where I finally reached for help that I suppose I feel a sort of release to be on this side of getting help.

Nat - hospitals must do ops all the time with people on many and multiple med combinations. They must know what they are doing. Concentrate on it being over with by Monday evening. You can think about the results afterwards. Easier said than done I know (totally).

ClosedAuraOpenMind · 13/11/2014 21:23

Feeling a little better, less fuzzy head and less empty inside
Only thing is I've got a splitting headache......I used to get them when I started my ADs, so wonder if it's a side effect of upping the dose.
Anyway, wanted to say thanks to those who said kind supportive things to me and I hope others are doing better

Nervo · 14/11/2014 17:13

Hi Closed - glad you are feeling a bit better. Are you taking paracetemol for your headache?

I'm off out to a friends house tonight. There will be Prosecco. I'll be fine with a glass won't I? Dh thinks I will anyway.

Thing is, I rarely go out so I really should go.

Pandora37 · 14/11/2014 17:15

I hope it all goes well on Monday Nat. I'm sure a reaction must be incredibly rare, they wouldn't give you a GA if they didn't think it was safe.

Will I do still have the numbness. I feel very apathetic about everything. I don't remember feeling like this on sertraline, I seemed to have more extreme highs and lows but I was still motivated. I don't feel motivated at all now, I don't feel like I care about anything. I'm dreading Christmas, I know I'm lucky as I'll be with my family but it makes me sad as I won't be with my ex. At least I'll be working that week so won't have too much time to think about it. I hate New Year's Eve as well, I may well volunteer to work that night. I'm a ray of sunshine at the moment Grin. How did it go with the GP?

ClosedAuraOpenMind · 14/11/2014 20:17

Hey Nervo, I'm sure you'll be fine with a glass of prosseco.....I certainly still enjoy a glass of vino!

Been taking ibuprofen for the headache which helps a bit

Does anyone else get night sweats with sertraline?

Nervo · 15/11/2014 08:20

How's the headache Closed?

Summersover - welcome. I've just joined too.

Nat99 - I've only just started taking Sertraline but no night sweats so far.

Nat99 · 15/11/2014 09:07

I think mine started after s few days

Nat99 · 15/11/2014 09:09

Just worried its something else as having what they think is a polyp removed on Monday and of course sweats is a symptom of endemetrisl cancer. I am absolutely beside myself as well as panicking about the general anasthetic with these drugs

Nervo · 15/11/2014 09:40

The nights sweats could be because you are so worried about your operation on Monday.

Honestly, anesthetists are experts on how drugs effect and interact with each other. I know that nothing will stop you worrying but at least by Monday night this particular worry will be over.

Pandora37 · 15/11/2014 12:16

summer I'm on mirtazapine, I was the same for about the first 4 days. See how you go, I felt awful when I first took it, I could barely keep my eyes open. I found that effect wore off quite quickly though, I hope it does for you too.

Pandora37 · 15/11/2014 12:19

Oh and re weight gain, I have put on weight, just under half a stone after 5 weeks on it which isn't terrible I don't think (I've heard lots of horror stories of people putting on 2 stone in a week). It's very common to increase your appetite so it's likely that you will put a bit of weight on but you just need to really manage what you eat and eat sensibly. It's very easy to eat your way through loads of crap on mirtazapine so as long as you're aware of that and are sensible about your diet hopefully you'll be okay.

Nat99 · 15/11/2014 13:45

Thank u nervo x haven't eaten properly in over s month and lost a stone, that won't make any diff with the GA either eill it? Has anyone else even had polyps in uterus I'm so scared, mainly because I am scared that's not what it is as radiologist put "may be a polyp" but do they have to say that, are they normally correct does anyone know? X

nosleeptilever · 15/11/2014 18:23

Hi all,
I've been on sertraline for 3 weeks and still feeling pretty low and anxious but the worst side effects seem to have gone. I've been waking at 5 am every morning but finally started sleeping through this week. Nat99 I've been having major night sweats since starting ads.
Have resisted ads for about 5 years but events transpired such as a big project at work with extra stress, less exercise and then ended up in hospital with a gi bleed (no idea where that came from). It all sort of spiralled from there. Some of you mention burnout, has anyone gone down the alternative health route for this? I think burnout is my issue.
I hope everyone is getting better.
