Problems with anxiety

I think I may have GAD, or I'm suffering from stress really badly. Or something.
Can those of you who have been diagnosed with it please talk to me about your experience at the GP and what treatment you were offered?
How successful was it, and how long before you started to see an improvement?

Thanks Iwas.
I've been putting off going to the GP for months. I don't understand why, because I've had very severe depression in the past and wasn't embarrassed about going to the doctor with that.

I have GAD. Its shit :(

My gp was very good and I was referred for counselling and prescribed medication. Anxiety and depression tend to go hand in hand.

I've just started counselling for this. Tomorrow's appointment will be the first session of hypnotherapy to hopefully give me some coping strategies. Give it a go. I thought about going for YEARS but once I made the physical step of going over the door for the first appt I felt so relieved.
Good luck to you Thanks

I have been having treatment for GAD since April. I was prescribed Sertraline, which has really helped me overall, although I do still have ups and downs.

Lately I have also found this website really helpful - particularly the idea of 'just accepting your symptoms and not fighting them'. The section on 'Anxiety Tips' really struck a chord with me Smile
