What if you go missing while on leave from hospital while sectioned?

A month ago someone I know was sectioned (under section 3). He has been given 8 hours a day leave, but has not returned to the hospital. What happens now?

The hospital calls the police, and the police look for him. They will probably contact any known family and friends to try and track him down. Ultimately they will use force to take him back to the hospital.

Thank you. I think friend has this planned. I don't think police will find him, unless he genuinely fell asleep at home, or something.
