Sertraline .... 3 weeks in

Is it possible to hit a massive low on 50mg after 3 weeks? I feel 10x worse than I did to start with!!!

No real other side effects. Just genuinely feel hideously low, depressed & want the world to go away. I have cried non stop for last 3 days FFS. I have a 6 month old (lone parent) so I have to hold it together.

I will book GP in the morning but just want to know if anyone else out there felt the same??

Didn't want to read and run. Hope you begin to feel better soon.

I'm only on Week 1 of Sertraline, so don't know if your experience is typical of Week 3. Might be worth posting on the "Sertraline buddies" thread, chat to posters who have been on it for several months?

It may be that 50mg is not a therapeutic dose for you. The other thing though is that depression causes "ups and downs" especially until the meds have really kicked in, which can take several weeks. I assume you have PND - and I think I've heard other young mothers say Sertraline was good for them, though we all react differently to meds. I suspect your GP will consider increasing the dose, but tbh 3 weeks in is no time at all really, and it really does take much longer for a full recovery. Apparently 4 out of 5 people can expect to make a full recovery in 4 - 6 months, so you need to be a bit patient, although I do feel for you, suffering the torment of depression with a young baby. Do you have an RL support - do hope so.

Thanks both. Yes severe PND. I'm also an older mother previous very carefree life etc ... I have my family which is great but just want to be me again Sad

Have GP today so will update later Smile

You will be you again TheJourney - but you do have to be patient. The road to recovery has lots of bumps along the way and sometimes you think you've fallen off the path but you will get there. Also don't be in too much of a hurry to get off the meds as this can cause a further episode.
