Jeopardising own happiness

Whenever it is a special day specifically for my DP, we end up in a row the day before, which ruins the actual day.

On his birthday he got shirty the day before, I responded and we got in a row.

Yesterday he was in a terrible mood which escalated and it's obviously Father's Day today.

What could this be?

My husband and I have an expression for this.
We call it PVT - pre visiting tension.

When big even is coming up, or someone important is coming to visit, both of us get sometimes get tense. Which can cause arguments.

Now that we are both aware what happens, we know to give each other a bit of a wide berth on the day before.
