Am I getting better?

I have been psychotically depressed for over a year solidly. Over the past week I have felt normal all day but about 6pm I start to go back down hill. Does it sound like I'm getting better?

Well done! "Baby steps" is what I would say. At the start of my recovery I was a few steps forward and a few steps back. I went on meds (Citalopram) and at first I had one good day in the first week, then two good days, then three good days, etc., which after feeling constantly horrid for such a long time was progress. You should congratulate yourself on feeling a bit better. X

Oh so glad to hear that inamess - I've just read your other post about the confusion with the psyches and the meds. Hope that gets sorted, but hey feeling normal for a week, with a dip in the evening is progress for sure. My CPN told me recently that people who are psychotically ill often have worse symptoms in the evening - she said "we call it sundown" when symptoms become apparent.

Stop questioning it OP. Dont ask yourself anything in regards to your mental health. Just focus on the now and let the rest worry about itself. Its quite normal for people to feel fine in the day and worse come the evening and its quite normal for it to be just the opposite. I have followed your threads and from the tone of them, yes I believe you are on the mend. But that doesnt help. You have to believe that yourself and not need validation to say that it is so. Keep focusing on the day to day and that question wont even come into your mind anymore.

You are doing great.
