Citalopram 40mg and Slim Fast

In brief, I've suffered postnatal depression and have been on 40mg Citalopram for 18months. I've gained a hell of a lot of weight, due to numerous factors and have now gotten my head into the right place to shift some timber. I want to do Slim Fast for two or three weeks to kick start my diet but before I do, does anybody know if it's safe to take citalopram and use slim fast at the same time? Last thing I want to do is unravel. Google hasn't been very helpful thus far.

Well done you! That's what weigh loss is about...getting your head in the correct place. Good luck to you. If I was you, I'd call a pharmacy and ask the pharmacist if they two will be ok together. I can't imagine why it wouldn't be, but it's best to check I guess.

Obviously not the same med but I've done Cambridge Diet whilst on quetiapine with no problems.

Do you take it on a morning or at night? It's not a medication that strictly needs to be taken with food (doesn't affect absorption rate etc) but it can cause fairly bad nausea when taken on an empty stomach.
Morning may be a little trickier but the shakes are fairly thick and filling so I'd say give it a whirl. Whatever you do DON'T adjust your med times to suit though!

Hi Wheres. I had an interesting chat with my GP about weight gain and Citalopram. She said it interferes with your 'feeling full' sensation. ie you don't. So was told to watch portion sizes and question myself about whether I was really hungry before eating

No idea if Slim Fast is ok, sorry.

I went up to 40mg and back down and now I am off it. Are you going to be staying on 40mg for now?

Hi Brew, I'm on Citalopram & have put on lots of weight too. It's been exacerbated by me having ankle surgery & sitting, leg raised for 6 weeks. I'm starting the big, "D" on Monday.

I did slim fast whilst on Citalopram. No problems.

I'm in exactly the same place as you.. plus a few years on the pills. really finding hard to motivate myself so good that you have got to your brain space. I'm aiming to start slimfast tomorrow.
