How to get help when I cant leave the house.

I've been suffering from a pretty bad anxiety problem for about a year. I had this problem 8 years ago (but to a lesser extent) and got CBT. This time round its gotten to the point where I cant leave the house without feeling physically sick and panicky.

I've called the doctors twice over a 4 month period, most recently yesterday. I pleaded with him to write a prescription for some anti anxiety medication that someone could pick up for me but he refused to do that until he'd seen me 2 or 3 times and I had to go there.

So what do I do now? I want to get some psychological help but I cant leave the house, the plan was to start that after I had medication to help me get out.

Has anyone been in this situation? What can be done about it?

Hi can you phone the gp and request a home visit? Or a phone visit? A gp cannot prescribe or refer without making an assessment of you. Can you leave the house at all? If you want talking therapy I would imagine you would have to get there - so seeing a gp is the first step. Afraid I cannot advise on how to get through that first hurdle - hopefully someone will post with experience.

I would ring the doctors and ask the receptionist for a home visit, due to the fact you are agoraphobic !!!!
Don't give in, till you get a yes. GP don't like home visits but in your case they will have too

Tell them you are housebound/agoraphobic and NEED a doctor due to extreme uncontrollable anxiety/panic.

If you don't get anywhere, perhaps a complaint to the practice manager and then PALS may be in order?

Thanks for the advice. My friend actually rung up the surgery today to request a home visit as they are so worried but the doctor that rang me back just told me they will never come and do home visits unless you physically cant walk or leave the house.
They threw in 'You need to just get out and come in, its not fair on yourself or your daughter' for good measure too Sad

When was the last time you left the house? Can you remember what helped you do that?
Why not phone Gp again and tell them the last date you left the house and insist on an appointment. Failing that you can call 111 for advice out of hours, so now - and tell them you need medical attention but cannot leave the house. Here they have some capacity for home visits.
