Anxiety Strategies please!

I suffer from anxiety. Day to day I have it mostly under control.

However I have to go away. It involves flying (longhaul) leaving dc at home with DH. These are all trigger events and as it approaches I am feeling physically sick. I cannot avoid going. Does anyone have any tips to help cope?

I don't fear flying per se. I will sedate myself once I'm on the plane anyway.

I sympathise. I also suffer from anxiety triggered by leaving DS. I sometimes have to travel with work and struggle to settle the whole time I'm away.

I don't really have any coping mechanisms, other than distraction. If I'm busy I normally have it under better control - the problems start when I have time to think. I normally take a good book, or something I know will keep me occupied.

Sorry I can't be more help. x

It helps to know I'm not the only one who gets this so thank you :)

I hope I will be busy a lot of the time but the build up is horrible. I want to cling to the dc for every moment right now.

Have you tried mindfulness meditation? There are quite a few apps you can get for your phone. A 10 min meditation (e.g. Headspace) calms me right down.

I try to focus on 5 things I can see - memorise them and then list all 5, then 4 etc down to 1. I also take a good, easy read book and get an aisle seat . I have even been known to wear dark glasses and earplugs on board to kind of isolate me from everything especialy aircraft noises.

Before I go I write lists of everything I have to do/take and a timetable so I feel fully organised and won't panic about leaving.

Good luck x
