Citaloprim query

Hello, I've been prescribed 20mg citaloprim and I took one wed morning and another Thursday morning - the side effects within a few hours were horrendous - Felt nauseous, was sick in the evening both nights for a few hours, hot an cold, Shakes, dizzy and generally felt really unwell.

On advice, I decided to half the dosage and take hf tablet last night. I was so exhausted that I went to bed at 5.30pm on half a tablet and slept through til 3.30, I woke up, was sick once but not since. I've had a cup of tea and biscuit but still feel groggy headed and feels like I've got a hangover. But I don't feel nauseous at the mo. I know I've messed my body clock up though !!

I've been prescribed it as I'm suffering with stress but I don't believe it's depression.

Any advice please? Was I right to half the dose and change it to bedtime?

I really don't want to give in, as I've heard such positive things about citaloprim .

Many thanks for any advice.

If you can push through it for a few days, you may find the side effects settle down, most often people do take a couple of days for their bodies to get used to the drug.
Citalopram is one of the best re side effects, but if after a few days you're still struggling then it may be that for whatever reason it's not for you, and you need to go back to your GP to find something that suits you better.

It took me about three or four weeks before I felt totally settled on citalopram and I spent the first three or four days feeling as high as a kite.

Iirc it took me a few days to a week to get used to citalopram. I started off taking mine at night (as the Dr had said to), but it stopped me sleeping, so I changed to morning and have stayed mornings since.

I have been good with citalopram, I had changed to it from fluoxitine as that hadn't been quite right for me.

If your side effects are really too bad, or don't settle down, then go straight back to the Dr, there are quite a few different pills out there.
