Has anyone weaned themselves off Prozac successfully?

Hi I have been on Prozac for 3 years since my life hit crisis point :-( it has done the job well seen me through bereavement and family court ect...
I now feel the side effects are outweighing the benefits. My life is quite settled at the moment so this would probably be a good time to attempt withdrawal. I just feel scared I am going to get major depression again so am unsure what to do.

Anyone got any success stories?

Yes - twice! Both times I took it slow and steady, and had no problems whatsoever. But do talk to your doctor.

Thanks Devora I will speak to my doctor tomorrow and make a decision. I tried to come off a year ago but got suicidal so had to go straight back on. But I was going through the final stages of the family court so it was probably bad timing.

I would love to be Prozac free as I feel it is masking my personality.

Yes, multiple times. Withdraw slowly so you don't have a big breakdown, and follow your GPs advice.

Thanks allisgood got an appointment with doctor tomorrow. Have you managed to control your depression since coming off it?

I was on it for anxiety and made some lifestyle changes (i.e. diet and visiting the chiropractor). Although these changes are not evidence based, I have not needed to go back on (where previously I have within 6 months). I have been off since August. Please look into alternative methods before weaning yourself. This is a hard learned lesson for me.

Thanks allisgood. Glad you've managed to stay off them. Am not knocking them I can honestly say they saved my life. I will be putting alternative methods in place for the future.
