Question about psychotherapists / UKCP

If a psychotherapist/counsellor has their contact details publically on the UKCP website, would this usually indicate that they're open to be contacted by people seeking counselling? Or is this standard practice (to have the contact details up) for even those counsellors who only work within the NHS?

I would say that yes, they are most likely available for private work, most counsellors I have known who only work in the NHS, wouldn't put their contact details on a public website

Have name changed as this came up on my work alert for google and dont want my worlds to collide! I work for UKCP - not as a psychotherpist and absolutley yes contact away. UKCP is a membership organsiation and register of psychotherpists and psychotherapuetic counsellors who have met our standards of education, training and practices. Think of it as a kite mark type thing. Find a therapist is a means of the public finding a UKCP psychotherpist and contacting them directly. Hope this helps.

That's very helpful. I'm thinking about contacting an old counsellor of mine, who I know works for the NHS, and I'm not sure if she seems people privately. But she does have her email and phone numbers publically in several places, including the UKCP site. I'll mull this over a bit - the emotional stakes are quite high.

I name changed for this too obviously, though I'm not sure why! I just feel uncomfortable writing about mental health stuff under my main username.
