Citalopram - side effects

I've been diagnosed with anxiety and depression and am on day 3 of citalopram.
I feel soooo much worse tho. I'm on the verge of a panic attack for last 12 hours and haven't slept for 2 days.
Is this normal?
I have 3 kids and a job and can't get through this if it's going to take weeks or months for this new anxiety and no sleep to pass. I'm much worse than before.
Do I quit now and go back to how it was?
I'm so confused.

Totally normal.

After day 3 the edge went slightly.

Took about 3 weeks for me to start to feel like myself again.

Hang in there, it's totally worth it

BrewThanks

Also mention the no sleep to doc. I had a few days of sleeping tablets and also took my dose in the am because it disrupted my sleep too much at night if I took it then.

Good advice, thank you

Yeah, it's normal, it's bloody awful though. Thanks My brain felt antsy for a good week and I was constantly checking my thoughts and panicking about them. It does get better once they kick in, and life gets easier or at least more bearable so if you can hang in there now you've started you'll be ok. Good luck with it.

Just back from the GP (again!) and he agrees the anxiety is probably worsene by the lack of sleep so has given me a weeks worth of sleeping tablets and told me to stick with it. He also thinks I need a few weeks of work which I originally refused but after a week from hell, I'm not fit for anything.
Roll on a good nights sleep!

Should say off work, not of work. Oops.

Hope the pills help, what did you get? I've used zopiclone when I've had insomnia, they're nice because they just slow your thoughts right down and send you off.

A couple of weeks off might really help too, just bed down and take it easy on yourself while things settle. I also dowloaded this from Audible when I was off and listened every day - it's being recommended now as a treatment for anxiety with great results.

Good stuff.

Just be aware zopiclone have me a horrible metallic taste in my mouth - again, totally normal. And it's worth it for some kip.

Pm me if you want to. I also think the time off is essential. X
