Has anyone been prescribed promazine?

Hi, I have bad PND, exacerbated by extreme anxiety and insomnia. It's a massive downward spiral at moment.
I was prescribed citalopram 20mg, this didn't work so it's been upped to 30mg, also I saw a psychiatrist on Tuesday who prescribed promazine as a sleeping tablet that reduces anxiety. Well, I took it last night and my anxiety went through the roof, vivid dreams almost like hallucinations, and up ad down all night. Awful.
I can't find much info on this drug on the web and wondered if anyone has experience with it?

Psychiatrists sometime prescribe low dosages of anti-psychotics to aid sleeping. Mine prescribes a dose of Quetiapine because the side effects at low dosage is sleepiness.
I am not psychotic. However, sleeping tablets are apparently considered both addictive and tolerance dependent (i.e. you get addicted and need more and more to get off to sleep). Zopiclone, Temazepam etc.
Hence, the PDoc prescribes a low dose of anti-psychotics as an 'off-label' treatment for insomnia as is deemed non habit forming.
If things aren't working out for you go back to your PDoc as there are alternatives, and, as is the case with most MH meds, some trial and error to find what works best for you isn't unusual.

Thank you. that is really useful information, will do so. i must admit the label 'anti psychotic' didnt fill me with great confidence, so I was scared going to bed after taking it which will not have helped.
