How often do you see your cpn?

I used to see mine every fortnight, which was fine. Unfortunately I got unwell and at the same time my cpn got ill. Now I have seen two different cpns in last five weeks. When I got unwell I was promised I see one every week. But reality is that it's one every three weeks, if that.

Honestly? 6 weekly or more, much more.

Make the most of it. If your areas anything like ours you'll be very, very lucky, and in the minority, to have a CPN.

Weekly if we are trying new meds, then fortnightly, then onto 4 weekly visits.

Used to be weekly in crisis times, then fortnightly or every three weeks. By the time he had holiday or illness usually worked out once a month.

Also they monitored my crisises so telling them I had self harmed meant immediate non contact for set time to ensure I did not harm to get attention which was the problem I had years ago. Not under a CMHT now so not relevant. It worked. They wanted me to learn the skills and become responsible for myself so if I deteriorated I had crisis team involvement which meant 24 phone contact and some visits over a 2-3 week period. Never saw same people in a row so was mainly risk assessment, medication input and advice on keeping ok. Then referred back to Cpn who I did not see at same time as crisis. No idea what was standard as this was 5 years or so ago.

It was every week but we have just changed it to every other week.

I always feel guilty on threads like these because my CMHT are brilliant, I have never felt abandoned.

I'm supposed to see mine once a month, in reality it's probably once every six weeks. Have been on same meds for about two years and not really in crisis.

I don't actually find her that helpful tbh, it feels like a bit of a chore as she makes a lot of inaccurate assumptions about me and has pretty low expectations because of it. But I feel as though it ticks various boxes to turn up to each appointment, so it helps in an indirect way.

I saw cpn yesterday after all, which was helpful.

Larahusky, that doesn't sound good, but at least you see psych quite often.

There really are differences between cpns. The one I see now is good. I feel much better after discussing with him yesterday. My usual one is so so, and another one I saw was the same.

Great you see a psychiatrist so often Lara, I guess that helps a bit. I see a psychiatrist for 20minutes every 6 months for medication review, though last apt was 9 months ago due to staff illness.

Glad you got a good cpn Sauna, that is great.

DiaryOfAWimpyMum · 24/01/2014 20:17

I should add its my psychiatrist I see weekly then fortnightly and eventually 4 weekly, I also have his contact number and he calls me back within the hour if I need to call him and he is busy.

It must vary from area to area I think

That's good service you get, wimpymum! Here everything goes through cpn who discusses with psychiatrist about problems with meds etc. I have med reviews every 6-12 weeks.
