Psychiatrist tomorrow/today

And I dont know what to say.
I cant tell her that I took an overdose at christmas or that I'm not coping because she wont hear it.
She just tells me to keep taking my meds and come back in 3 months.
I dont know what to say to her that will Help her see that I'm in a really bad place, that I dont want to live anymore.
I dont know if she can help me maybe thats why she doesnt do anything, maybe I'm just unhelpable :(

I was in exactly the same boat a couple of weeks ago and yes my psychiatrist was angry at me. Hope yours is more understanding. It's horrid isn't it? But I'm sure your not unhelpable.

I hate not being able to say or explain properly how I feel.
I know they can't help if they don't know but sometimes when I try to say what's in my head I just feel stupid, she seems to manage to only hear the bits I mess up and not what I'm trying to say.
I just wish I could get what's in my head into words but it doesn't seem to happen :(

Turns out they are bringing another dr in to the appointment and I have no idea why. My paranoid head is on and I feel like a rabbit caught in the headlights :(

How you feel is ok.
It's really hard for most of us to get it out and say what we really think. Psychiatrists know that - they deal with enough patients and we all present pretty similar in this regard.

When you see your psychiatrist ask directly why another doctor needs to be present. It might not be because of 'you'.
E.g. You might be seeing a 'trainee' and a consultant is present as part of approving his medical training via oversight!

I often struggle with what I want to say so I now write it down and hand that over. That way I get to review it and make it succinct and can convey everything I want to say without interruption.
I have lost track of the amount of times my brain has gone completely to mush 2 seconds after I have sat down!

How did it go?

Are you seeing anyone for a talking therapy of some kind? If the psychiatrist is focusing on your medication would it also be helpful to see a psychologist/psychotherapist?

I'm not really sure how it went.
When she called me in her room there was only her there.
She told me I looked unwell and I told her I was getting over pneumonia and had pluerisy(sp) just now.
I told her I had took an overdose at christmas and she said that if I had succeeded then they would have been blamed for it, so now instead of a weekly prescription I can only have 3 days worth.
I was told I can phone my cpn and crisis team when I'm struggling but not my psychologist.
She is going to organise a workers meeting to try and work a plan for when I go into crisis but the psychiatrist is very good at saying things but she just never follows through with it.

I got told similar by my psychiatrist when I od. It doesn't sound too bad. I also still feel alone and empty. I guess they are doing all they can

I guess at least they've clarified what you can do/who you can call when you're feeling awful.

The limited med prescriptions is what they do for everyone who ODs, a friend of mine has daily meds that she has to collect each day from the pharmacy.

I hope they do sort a crisis plan for you.

I just wish they would all work from the same page and stop changing their minds on what I can and cant do.

I overdosed on NYE and told cpn and psychologist the following week but neither seemed overly concerned, but now 3 weeks later the psychiatrist is concerned, it just all messes with my head and I cant work it out anymore.

Hi, sorry it was hard. Psychiatrists deal with medication so only the psychiatrist generally looks at your risk level and changes prescription amounts accordingly.

I think it is common to not have open access by phone to psychologists. It is good you have open access to both Cpn and crisis team to call, hope that helps you. Things like medication changes, able to contact crisis team yourself are probably part of your crisis plan already even if not on paper.

I have found psychologists and cpn's tend to leave concerns about medication to psychiatrists which is maybe why they said nothing before.

Hope having it every 3 days is helpful.
