Nc for this. My oldest DS, has Aspergers and has not had a great time. School was awful for him, but after trying 6th form he did access to HE and got into Uni. He loved it, but didn't succeed and came back home after two years. He hasn't worked but is currently on a vocational course.
Yesterday he said he had been to the doctors to talk about his depression and anxiety. He filled in a questionnaire and seemed to be scoring very high. He doesn't get on with his brothers at all. He stays up all night, would sleep all day if we let him. He has had problems with drugs, but I had a tough talk before Christmas and said that was unacceptable. I wouldn't kick him out, because he would hang out with the local knobheads and end up either dead or in prison.
Has anyone had experience of young people (he is in his 20s) in a similar situation? I feel like a crap mother, although I have given him so much support. How can I support him now? What will the doctor do?

I was diagnosed with health anxiety and depression at 21 (now 22 and getting there) Although my circumstances are different (have a child, partner, job, house etc). You are NOT a crap mother! I don't have much advice (sorry) but please don't blame this on yourself.

The doctors will treat him as they would anyone else. Refer him for CBT and possibly prescribe anti-depressants.

best of luck to you :)
