Wish I could ring crisis team directly.

Not feeling great tonight, all day I've felt a bit unsafe and scared. I've been under the crisis team before, and in this state before, but in the past I've had to call 111, speak to a doctor, who usually suggests a&e, where I sit all night getting worse until I see a psych and get discharged with the support of crisis team. Why can't it be easier, if I know I need help before things get worse, I just want to ring the crisis team. They have my notes and know me. It's just crap.

Is there a local helpline number you could call? What about the samaritans? Or do you feel you need medical attention?

It is frustrating isn't it. I thought the same after awful 24 hrs here.

Understand why not as small team and they would be have so many callers they would not be able to speak to everyone. I can see why not a free for all in gaining support as not everyone would use it properly and some would over use it, not saying you would. Or me.

Your gp can also refer you to crisis if see them in Monday, or your normal mental health workers - though they have to say you need more help than normal workers offer before they will refer you. If not under a team then a gp, out of hours or a and e can refer you as you describe above. When I have seen out of hours they do not always send me to hospital, usually they phone crisis themselves and if crisis accept there and then go home and wait for them to call. Usually go to a and e if need assessing for crisis to take on, well that is the system here. As crisis based near a and e where I live so they use that system.

Do you have any medication to take when worse such as a prn medication to help?

In our area there is a direct number for the crisis team there is no calling 111 and no waiting in A*E. Contact your authority mental health patient advisory liason service (pals) explain the process you have to through to having the crisis team, they may give you a direct telephone number for the crisis team in your area.
You may need to ring your local hospital pals to get the mental health pals telephone number.

Gosh, how does the service cope I wonder with everyone having access, do crisis triage and decide themselves whether to support patients or do they have oodles of staff? Sounds ideal if enough staff for everyone to have the intensive support they need. Do not worry if cannot get access like that OP, as they do not have to give it just cos one area of country does.

How are you today? Would going and seeing an OOH dr be helpful anyway for support?

Messupmum · 05/01/2014 12:10

Thanks, I had a look at rethink but there isn't any local group, the nearest one is for carers. I don't expect to be able to call crisis team directly, but I wish I could ring OOH and ask to be referred to crisis team. The times I have called 111 I've always had to go to a&e and see a doctor first, one time they referred to ss because of my dark thoughts Sad which is what puts me off a bit.

I'm trying to distract myself but it's hard, putting stuff away in the loft and I get horrible urges to do things.

Can you phone up 111 and ask for an appointment with an OOH person. Go to them. It is all about being careful about what you say on phone to get an appointment, 111 are notorious for sending people to A and E to be sorted instead of dealing with it the self. If you see an OOH dr they can phone up there and then and refer to crisis.

Good news is it is almost Monday and at 9am you can phone up your usual MH team and ask them to refer you to crisis?

Crisis can also refer to SS it is not just A and E.

I'm just going to wait until tomorrow, and get through the say trying not to sh too much

Distractions are good.

can you contact your normal worker or team on Monday - they will have someone on duty even if not your worker and tell them you want referral to crisis team? Or will you have a planned session soon, they could move that nearer? I guess staff being off over holidays has meant it could be busy tomorrow so be persistent.
