Um...I think you can but be prepared for it to make you feel a bit weird.

I think I had a drink once while taking it and it made me feel a bit odd although that could have been other meds

Inthebeginning · 24/12/2013 19:06

my Dr said be careful as it can affect your feelings a bit. exaggerate them?? I drank a few times and was fine x

MakeMeJumpIntoTheAir · 24/12/2013 19:09

Thank you. It does say on the information not to drink alcohol, so maybe I'll have one tall drink with lots of soda water! I don't want to feel odd, and will only stress about the possibility of it happening.

I take citalopram in 10mg at min too and have had 2 big nights out while on it and been ok.
I was previously on 40mg and was a bit more emotional when I was drunk. Shock

Thanks Thegreatunslept!

I have the odd glass of wine or two and I'm on 20mg.. Can't drink loads as it makes me feel anxious the following day.

LowLevelWhinging · 24/12/2013 20:26

I used to drink on 10mg. it was fine for me.

guess it's quite individual, but your preconceptions will affect how you feel.

I agree with the anxiety the following day though.

BigBirthdayGloom · 25/12/2013 00:22

I've been avoiding it on 20mg citalopram. Tbh, alcohol I can live without. Chocolate on the other hand...

MakeMeJumpIntoTheAir · 25/12/2013 00:48

No, don't blame you. Another friend of mine was on citalopram - I assume she still is - and she's still been drinking with no more than the usual ill effects. If you're okay after it I'm sure it's fine. Hope you have had a good Christmas.

madasa · 27/12/2013 10:49

I have been on Citalopram (40mg) for about 18 months. I have regularly drunk alcohol with it and had no ill effects but I guess it's a personal thing.

Hope you are as ok as poss makemejumpintotheair

Hi, yeah not too bad Madasa, thank you - having a few days in, just chilling without any alcohol as on my own
