My sister suffers from BPD and other MH issues.
She has called me and she is feeling very suicidal-
Usually when she is feeling like this I can talk to her and work out a plan whether that is taking her to the hospital, going out for a drive with her or just sitting with her.
Today though she will not even try to make a plan. She's told me she won't let me in if I come over (she lives in a gated block of flats and so I wouldnt be able to get in to get to her front door) and she is saying she doesn't want any of it, she wants to die etc.
I don't know what to do. She won't talk to me properly. I am so worried about her.
Any advice? Is there anything I'm missing?
Thank you in advance.

How upsetting. I'm not sure what to say but didn;t want to read and run. Do you have contact details for any of her doctors. Or phone out of hours, nhs 24?

yellowballoons · 07/09/2013 20:09

Tell her you will call 999 unless she lets you in, is what I think I would do.

lilypad21 · 07/09/2013 20:09

I don't have her doctors number I could phone nhs but I don't know what I would say as she is refusing help?
Thank you though for replying

I also think you should call 999. Hope all ok.

NothingsLeft · 07/09/2013 20:30

Definitely call 999. They can take her to a place of safety. Sounds like she might need to be admitted or get more support at home from the MH team.

Will they be able to get into the gate?
i have just spoken to her again and she seems a bit calmer but I still want to call them

Dont know if they will be able to get into the gate.

HeeBeeGeebies · 07/09/2013 20:54

They may have to take the police with them to gain entry. This is what happened when I called 999 after an identical situation with a friend of mine. The police gained entry by buzzing through to neighbours they then kicked my friends front door down.

I hope your sister is ok op, and that you are too, you must be very worried x

HoopHopes · 07/09/2013 21:15

If you want to visit her she may let you in if you just turn up if calmer. The fact she rang you shows she wants help even of struggling to accept it. Can you get the code for the gates another time so you know it for future occasions if ever needed?

NothingsLeft · 07/09/2013 21:29

They will try her first and she may open it for them. Otherwise a neighbour and last resort the police. So you live close by? Could you go over?

NothingsLeft · 08/09/2013 12:59

How are things op?

That's good news. You can always ask for the home treatment team to come and support you both if you feel you need it. Hope she makes a speedy recovery Thanks
