Background in brief - history of abuse and lengthy depression, self harm, lots of therapy in teens inc psych ward stay. Now suffering from CFS (also known as ME) and having CBT as part of the treatment.

So, we were talking about low self esteem, negative inner voice etc, and she suggested doing this to gradually build up evidence against these thoughts. I've done similar briefly in the past but having done a lot of psychological 'inner work' this year I feel ready to make it stick and I thought doing a thread on it would make me more likely to bother!

I'm off to watch telly with DH in a mo (Big Bang Theory 6 arrived yesterday :o) so won't be back til tomorrow but if anyone wants to do this with me then jump in! Could be stuff you've achieved, nice things that have happened etc.

Mine are:

  • Had my consultation over the phone for the first time - was worried it'd feel weird but I stuck with it and found it really helpful.
  • Contacted a friend to arrange a meet up while he's visiting home (I hardly ever initiate anything like that)
  • Wrote in my treatment journal the same day as my session, instead of leaving it for weeks!

:)

Yesterday:

  • started a thread which got lots of replies (illegal food combinations :o)
  • DD did some lovely cutting out to make a collage, I was surprised how neat it was as normally she is quite slapdash, and she was showing off her knowledge of the Titanic. :)
  • DCs tidied up their train track really well after me asking once

What a great thread!!

I am currently in a very depressive state, I've suffered with depression at varying levels for at least 7 years. I have just been referred for CBT, which I'm pleased about because I can't go on in the spiral of negativity.

Anyway I having been lurking around this mental health forum recently and spotted this thread and thought it will help me a great deal.

Here's yesterdays;

  • Had a lie in, DH got up with youngest DC, I could hear him laughing and giggling with them which was nice.
  • Spent an hour watching motorcross on the beach DC and DH, even though it was raining it was strangely refreshing.
  • Was asked to look after my friends DD for a hour on Tuesday morning, which means she doesn't think I'm useless.

I'll be back later with todays :)

Been several fab few days

Saturday
Great morning with family
Great afternoon with friends
Was rather sloshed but stayed happy.

Sunday
Spa day with friends. Lunch, massage, spending time with friends - home to lovely welcome from DH and DCs. Just a perfect day.

Today
A good tidy up so house feels lovely
Sorted some banking stuff which has been preying on my mind - and was better than I thought
Fab reports at parents evening. DS needs to concentrate more and chat less - but he is only 5. They are both enjoying school so much I do not care too much about results just now. Happiness is what matters.

ColouringInQueen · 21/10/2013 21:00

today

  • got house cleaned super quick (being away for the weekend has its advantages)
  • ordered curtain clips
  • ate mostly healthily!
iMe · 21/10/2013 22:22

Energy levels were higher than usual and I stayed motivated and got lots done today.
Enjoyed doing crafts with the DCs this afternoon.
DD was much better behaved and even wanted to cuddle me this afternoon, feels like our relationship is on the mend.

PalmersHappiness · 22/10/2013 10:27

Monday

  • Booked place at Zumba class for Wednesday
  • Put name down to do voluntary conservation tasks at local nature reserve
  • DS (nearly 5) refused to put pyjamas on, so I told him he wouldn't have a story if he didn't and left the room, a few minutes later he appeared at my bedroom door in his pyjamas. :)
iMe · 22/10/2013 21:02

Got to the bottom of the ironing pile.
It didn't rain on me when I was in town.
Toddler slept so I was able to have a rest when feeling rough this afternoon.

fuzzpig · 22/10/2013 22:16

Welcome Palmers :) conservation volunteering sounds great! Best of luck with the CBT too.

Sunday:

  • went to town as a family and had a roast dinner out.
  • DCs were a bit fidgety but I coped when we were out
  • only had one DVD on during the day

Monday:

  • was brave and approached a lady representing a Wellbeing organisation funded by NHS, as my colleague persuaded me. Gave her my number to arrange a consultation and mentioned my MH difficulties as well as th CFS. Told colleague I was very grateful for her encouragement :)
  • managed a load of decluttering in the morning
  • box set of revenge arrived (did I order it first class so it arrived on the release date, um, yes I did :o) so watched the start of season 2!

Tuesday:

  • DH completed his training course two weeks early so he got back in time to pick up the DCs AND it makes the next couple of weeks so much easier
  • DD had a lovely parents evening report and I got home easily thanks to the bus
  • found a bit of music for an MNer, she was very pleased and I felt all proud :o

Oh my gosh I had to just nip on here and do today's despite the fact it's not even 4pm.

  • managed a quick shower before work rather than crawling into my clothes at the last possible minute
  • helped a customer really well and for the second time in a row remembered to write in my 'achievement diary' (something we all have to do for our performance reviews)
  • my 4yo DS came home and WROTE HIS NAME. I am amazed - he's been writing individual letters since he started learning phonics at school, but we had no idea he could do his name - due to his speech delay he can't even say his name. I am ridiculously proud! :o

No headache.
Playdate in the afternoon.

FishfingersAreOK · 25/10/2013 20:42

Feeling a bit glum today as need to keep my broken limb in a plaster cast for another three weeks. Sad

So trying to think of some positives.

Lovely cuddles from DCs and DH when I got a bit teary about the cast
Appointed Parent Governor at school
Ummm...I have clean sheets to go to bed in tonight. Love clean sheets.

ColouringInQueen · 25/10/2013 22:53

Beautiful sunshine this afternoon.
Got errands and admin done this morning
Felt a bit better than last few days.

iMe · 26/10/2013 22:56

I've also been struggling to find positives the last few days.
1.There was a spell of sunshine this evening after all the heavy rain, meaning DCs could get outside to play a short while and burn some energy and reduce the cabin fever and claustrophobic feeling in the house.

  1. DH cooked a yummy steak for dinner.
  2. Had a nice pampering session in the bath after DCs went to sleep.
PalmersHappiness · 27/10/2013 17:59

Struggling too at the moment :(

Sunday

  • arranged for DD friend to come and play tomorrow
  • traded in some books through Amazon
  • planing an early night.
shockers · 27/10/2013 19:59

I've had a bit of a blip over the last week or so, but today the mists have cleared.

Went to rugby for DS's first game with a club (he usually only plays for school). It was a fantastic game, he played really well and I was really proud listening to comments about his ability and sportsmanship. It didn't rain, the sun shone and I met some lovely people Smile.

I made the paprika chicken from the Hairy Bikers diet book for dinner and it was lovely.

I've lit the kitchen fire and the dog is snoring next to me, it's really relaxing... especially as I know I have tomorrow (and the next week) off.

  1. Came on mumsnet for some help so I do not feel so alone.
  2. Deciding to be a better mum than my own, I promised myself to always do everything I can to help my DC through any difficult times.
  3. Realizing the most important thing I can do is to manage my depression for me DCs sake.
iMe · 28/10/2013 19:36

Welcome 1234512345! Some good decisions you've made, you're sounding strong.

1 had a babysitter this morning and met my best friend out for coffee and lunchSmile
2 got my eyes tested, discovered I need glasses which i've never needed before, so hoping this will cure my headaches.
3 chatted another friend on the phone.

iMe · 28/10/2013 21:55

PS. No DC with me to steal the free flake chocolate that came with my latteGrin
