Odd side effect of Citalopram - anyone else?

Hi all,

First foray (sp?) in MH topic.

Been on Citalopram for 6 days and as soon as I started taking them, I noticed that my pupils looked huge. They still are and it's making me a bit paranoid that I look like I'm on drugs - well I am, but you know what I mean!

I look a bit like Lady Gaga on that video where she has huge eyes, freaky. Has anyone else had this and does it go??

TIA

I took citalopram for 3 days and it made me have some reay dodgy side effects! Yours sound okay in comparison! Just stick it out, they will pass x

Meandthecat · 29/08/2013 13:46

What side effects did you have?. Second day of not taking them and still crying, will go back on them tomorrow.

kalidasa · 29/08/2013 13:57

Oh yes, I had this. I also had a manic episode triggered by the citalopram though so probably not a typical case! Only ever took two of the things as they sent me so mad but I remember the funny eyes lasting a couple of days.

Forgot to say that my experience was VERY unusual, I don't think anyone on citalopram should worry about it.

I became incontinent and defacated in the night without realising. I suffered extreme fatigue and became a zombie. I was actually concerned about driving on it.

I have insomnia and excessive sweating with mine

Hi, coming to think of it when I was on it I had a few comments made about my pupils being unusually large Hmm I ended up being taken off because of side effects. Mine was mainly nausea and cramps but that was probably due to a intolerance.

I felt "spaced out" for the first day and had a slightly dodgy tummy for 2-3 days and that was it. Hope things improve for you soon.

I had that with tramadol, kept looking in the mirror trying to figure out why I looked odd took me ages, but not with citralopram that I can remember. that stuff scared me! I felt like I was having an out of body experience, my body was totally switched off but I was completely alert. I've just stopped sertraline because it caused bad reflux, I've lost loads of weight because of it. venlafaxine caused air hunger (yawning constantly and hard until the musclesfrom my face to my chest ache) I got it a little with sertraline. GP is refusing to prescribe me anything now. I'm thinking of just taking tramadol, one a day with paracetamol is amazing! although I may have to hire a hit man for Alexander Meerkat first (I hallucinated him singing his version of ebony and ivory all night last time Hmm Confused )
