Citalopram v Fluoxetine

I've been taking citalopram for 6 days and have got about 2 hours sleep every night since. Today I made an appointment with my doctor about it and have been changed to fluoxetine. However in the side effects bit in the instructions, it says 1 in 10 people will suffer with insomnia!!!

So now I'm torn. I have until 8pm to decide what tablet to take (thats the time I take the tablet).

What should I do? Stay on citalopram or switch to fluoxetine?

Hi Bonkeys. I am on Citalopram but my GP advised me to take it in the morning, definitely not at night as it would mess with my sleep pattern.

Ok I think i'm going to take the citalopram at 10am, so miss todays and just take it tomorrow at 10am, and see how I go. I've still got another 3 weeks worth of that left.

My main concern is I'm holiday from August 31st for a week so I don't want to be having any side effects then.

Well give it a go-see if it makes a difference. i have mine as soon as I wake up.
Are you having any other side effects?

Constant yawning! But not from being tired, just the need to yawn!

Hi.
I take citilopram to treat PND and I am also a specialist in psychiatry. All SSRI anti depressants should be taken in the morning for maximum benefit and also with citilopram the side effects should ( depending on dose) should settle after about a week.
It definitely will interfere with sleep and I'm not sure why GPs prescribe it at night?
What ever you decide hope you feel better soon
Kind regards
X

Oh yes the yawning. And I felt hot all morning and my jaw ached.

BonkeysLoveMananas · 22/08/2013 21:56

booprice Thanks for that, and also sparklingbrook
