Hallucination/delusion?

I posted a while ago about paranoia, thinking people were constantly trying to get in my house to steal DD (18mo)

The paranoia is still very much there, but the night before last DD was sleeping in my bed- I went to the toilet, came back and she was projectile vomiting everywhere, all over me, herself, the bed...only she wasn't.

It was like I suddenly snapped out of it and realised she was laying there, dozing away.

Has anyone had anything similar happen? I swear sometimes I can hear voices downstairs when I'm in bed, or hear people in my house when I'm out in the garden, but this is the first time I've had a hallucination/delusion.

Have you read about hypnagogic and hypnopompic hallucinations?

I sometimes hear voices or see hallucinations just before I fall asleep. These hypnopompic ones tend to happen when I am not doing so well or I am very stressed.

Ok, I've had a look-

When this happened, I was very much awake. The 'voices' and noises also happen when I'm awake in the middle of the day

Well at least you know they are not true :). Were you sleeping before you went to toilet?

I suppose that's one thing, although it's disturbed me somewhat!
No, I wasn't sleeping beforehand, I think if I'd be sleepy it would have freaked me out even more!

Squeeky, you need to see your Dr asap. This could be a symptom of severe PND. Please get an appointment as soon as you can. It might be nothing, i remember being half asleep one night with DD co sleeping and was convinced i had squashed her, she was in her cot I still think you need to talk to someone x

The fact that you have insight is a very good thing. However, you need to see a doctor as a matter of urgency. As you are describing symptoms which are classed as psychotic, a GP might well want you referred to a psychiatrist for assessment - not all gps are comfortable treating symptoms like this. You might also get a referral to a CPN or community crisis team.

It's very scary (I know!!) to deal with but worth it. I can remember walking through the house looking for the radio I could hear, thinking I was being watched/followed etc. please feel free to get in touch with me, I'd rather not talk too much about it on the open forum (still paranoid :) ).

Hi, I developed psychotic symptoms this year for the first time, it is very scary and I can understand how confused you feel. I find it very hard knowing that what I believe is real for me (voices, thoughts) but also knowing that what I believe can't be real.

There is help for this and it is important that you tell someone ASAP. There is medication and support that can help you get through this.

It has been difficult for me, but, as time has passed I find it a bit easier to live and deal with. The medication helps things not feel as significant.

What I have found reassuring is that it is really common, lots of people hear voices or see things. It was explained to me that when you are very stressed your thoughts can get confused and that it is fixable!

Like I said you must must tell someone and seek support for this.

Thanks for all of your replies, I forgot to come back and check yesterday!

I did see my GP back in February for severe anxiety I was given diazepam, but that's all gone now. Since then more things just seem to be developing when the paranoia gets really intense, I do think about suicide.

At least I know I'm not alone x

I would go back to your GP, diazepam is not a long term solution, you need support from specialist services which your GP can refer you into.

I agree with fluffy. Diazepam is not the solution to psychosis. You are describing classic psychotic symptoms please see your GP as a matter of urgency and ask for an urgent appointment with a psychiatrist or at the very least the community psychiatric nurse. You have nothing to be ashamed of you have altered brain chemistry and psychosis does not get better on its own. Please seek help and take care of yourself x

Please do go and see your GP. They will help if you are honest with them about how difficult you are finding stuff. Don't be afraid, they really are there to sort you out and won't judge.

If you are considering suicide please, please., please ring the samaritans.

If it helps, think of it in the same terms as any other health problem... diabetes for example. That can give frightening symptoms but most people wouldn't be afraid about consulting a GP about such things as there's less stigma.

How long were you taking the diazepam for, and what dosage? Sudden withdrawal from diazepam can actually cause psychotic symptoms so that might be worth ruling out if you were on them for longer than a few days. See here

I need someone to look after DD when I go, I don't want her to see me get upset or distressed. Next week I should be able to go as ex DP is off work.

I was on 2mg and had 28 days worth. I didn't take them every day, only when I really felt the anxiety kicking in, but did up my dosage and mix with alcohol. (I know, I know..)

I'm scared what will happen to DD

Nothing will happen to DD, having unusual thoughts means nothing other than you are having unusual thoughts, it doesn't mean anything about you as a parent or as a person. What are you worried about?

The track I think you need to go down is to see your GP, explain your feelings and thoughts and ask for a referral into the community mental health team. They specialise in helping people who feel that their mental health has changed.

The fact that you are here posting about worrying that you have hallucinations or delusions means that you have a lot of insight and that you recognise that this is not normal for you. That is really positive.

I think Ragusa's idea about diazepam withdrawal is interesting and should be explored.

28 days worth since Feb of 2mg tabs taken intermittently would be unlikely to cause psychotic withdrawal symptoms. I agree that high dose benzo's used over a long time can provoke this sort of withdrawal reaction.
Nothing will happen to DD and I think that it is important to express emotions good and bad in front of children. As fluffy said you have loads of insight which is often absent during acute psychosis, please get some help and don't let the GP fob you off with more diazepam.

Ok, probably unlikely to cause withdrawal but not totally impossible - one to discuss with the doctor maybe.

Really, take your DD with you to the appointment and please, make one now for as soon as you can get. She might notice you're upset BUT this is not going to harm her. I know you're fearful for your DD and for yourself but really, both your interests are far better served by getting help rather than battling on :( You made the first step by posting on here, and that in itself is a major thing.

All good here, no more episodes- had a busy few days, DD hasn't been coping too well with this heat I will get round to booking my GP appointment asap

I have had similar type hallucinations/delusions. I was described a low dose of antipsychotic medication and that's it. Nobody took my kids.
