Why has my depression returned after 8 months on Citalopram?

I was prescribed Citalopram back in October as I was suffering from severe depression and anxiety brought on by workplace stress. I had CBR and gave up my job.

As I was feeling better I decided to get another job last month. I work part time and my job is flexible so I can choose when and if I work. Since thinking about going back to work my symptoms have slowly been returning. I'm fine when I'm working it's at other times that feel depressed and anxious.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does it mean that the medication never really worked? Today all I did was talk about something to another mum at school pick up and I was hit with terrible anxiety - still feeling it now. What's going on? Will I ever be well again?

hi, what dose of citalopram did you get prescribed? it may be needing increased or it may not be the right ad for you, can you go back to gp?

It could be that your dosage needs to be adjusted. I am on citalipeam for pnd & went from 20-30-40 when going thru a divorce. Try & speak to a gp you can trust & go from there xxxx

Thanks so much for your replies. I think I will have to go my gp again. I last saw him about a month ago to ask him for a letter stating that I was fit for work. At that time I'd had a bad week but he explained that I would find difficult times even harder after being so ill. We were going to talk about coming off the pills next time and now I have to go back and ask for more!

emmab16 had you started to feel better before your divorce? Have you been able to decrease your dose again?

I have terrible nightmares every night where I am doing whatever I am going to be doing the next day. One thing after another it all goes horribly wrong. Then I wake up feeling suicidal. By morning I feel exhausted but at least my nightmares never come true!
