Bipolar Medications

I have my appointment on 26th June with CMHT as I may be bipolar.

I'm not depressed but I cannot sleep. I haven't been able to sleep (un-medicated) since last year and had horrendous nightmares so was diagnosed with PTSD and given Mitrazipine.

I fell into a deep depression around November and came out of it maybe in March/April but my mind races and has done since a spell on Prozac last year.

I am now on 75mg Chlopromizine 22mg Mitrazipine to help me sleep and supposed to take 50mg of the chlopromizine during the day.

Seen a GP today and he wants to put me on 150mg Chlopromozine until my appointment on 26th July.

I still have some symptoms of PTSD but instead of nightmares now I dream of whatever I do in the day, such as yesterday I was looking at someones Facebook page and I dreamt about them, GP said if I am remembering vivid dreams I am not sleeping properly, which I don't, I toss and turn and wake up looking like Ive been fighting.

Has anyone been on these?

and

Will the psychiatrist make me totally medicated?

I feel okay, I just cannot sleep and talk a bit too much. Blush

Well 150mg didn't knock me out at all, I had to take 20mg mitrazipine at 2.00am, then fell asleep. I don't have enough until the 26th so might have some nights awake

I thought chlorpromazine was quite an old fashioned anti-psychotic, but happy to be corrected. If its not working, its reasonable to ask for something else.

General - and good - advice if you are bipolar is to not take anti-depressants at all.

I have bipolar and am on Quetiapine, which is a next gen anti-psychotic and has sedative and anti-depressant effects in people with bipolar. It may be worth talking to your GP

Thanks for replying. The Doctor wanted me to stop the Mitrazipine but I was still tossing and turning around 2am so because they were at the side of my bed took one.

The DC are away tonight so I will try not take the Mitrazipine tonight, GP seems reluctant to try anything else until I see the Psychiatrist.

I just want to sleep.

From google they do seem to be an old anti-psychotic, also used for anxiety at low doses. I was on them after splitting with XH and 3 25mg used to literally knock me out at night, it's just not happening now.

I might try 200mg tonight.
