Anyone else feel guilty after a confrontation

Had a stupid little confrontation at our local restaurant yesterday. We were child free for the evening and popped out for a drink. A family were having a nice meal with there kids when they let them start running about, screaming, bashing our chairs, etc. Long story short I said the following 'sorry, please could the children go back to your table to play please.' When they got up to leave the father came over and stood over me and said 'did we ruin your drink'. No I said, to which he responded 'well you ruined our meal.... queue lots of dirty looks - a complaint to the management about us and grandma shuffling past muttering about us under her breath.'
What has really peeved me off is that I feel awful for upsetting them even though they acted like jerks - I don't do confrontatation at all well but I wish I could have said what I actually thought and not felt so terrible afterwards. Anyone else rubbish at confrontation but otherwise a confident and outgoing person?

I don't think you should feel awful at all, but then I'm pretty good at confrontation - I'd have given him a right mouthful! Their lack of manners and consideration for others 'ruined' their meal, not you. Wink

No.
I think the trick is you get to a point where you think, hang on, I am right and they are wrong.
And realise they are the ones with problems in their lives, not you.

wouldn't take it to heart.hubby and I went for a meal on Friday.Had 2 little children sitting near us or should I say running about.Only about 2 and 3 years old..The parents could not control them at all.Sod their luck when the 2 boys get older.I wouldn't want to be in their company.Luckily we were finishing our meal cause I was more than annoyed and it spoilt our meal with the noise they were making.Dont like confrontations either.Think any one could hear them a mile away.Prob the parents were use to it but I wouldn't take children to a restaurent if I thought they would be so naughty.
