A few questions about CPN'S

Okay so i have been allocated a CPN she is coming to see me a week today. I had one 15/16 years ago and I just can't remember what exactly she did for me, my memory of that time in my life is very hazy, i think maybe to do with having ECT and being very ill.

What exactly do they do, what can and can't they do to help etc..?

Hi I have a CPN. Sometimes they come to your house and sometimes you visit them at their office, it depends on your CPN.

Mine talks to me, she does immediate support and more long term work with me, she has helped me sort out benefits, helps me manage my medications etc. Basically helps all areas of my mental health.

I'm hoping it will be nice to talk to somebody inbetween my psych appointments about worries and concerns of med's etc........ as at the mo i have to ring the psych's secretary and she isn't always in a good mood or doesn't pass messages on. Not that i'm constantly ringing them, quite the opposite now as i never get anywhere.

Yes that is exactly what the CPN can support you with. I only see a psych when my CPN organises it now. I think they often do come to your house, maybe mine is awkward! Lots of luck with it.

Thanks hun, It is always better when anyone comes to the house as when i go to the hospital its a whole rigmarole of sorting someone to drop kids or pick them up from school and nursery, plus i don't drive and the hospital bus it a good walk away etc.... when your not well mentally these sort of things get me really anxious.
Currently seeing my Psych monthly as recently had a med change and then this week had the dose upped but when you get funny symptoms etc you don't want to be ringing hospital up every 5 mins with it, well i don't. This woman sounds absolutely lovely over the phone so hopefully it will be nice to just get that extra bit of support.
