To get CA, he has to get DLA. I think he might be entitled. Also you can only CA if you are earning less than £81 a week.

He also has to need a minimum of 35hours of care a week.

Thanks,it looks like we can get nothing.I checked out the site and we won't get it as he is my spouse and we work.He is not seen as disabled. He gets stressed easily so cannot work too much. Also has relapses if he is off the medication.

Hi.As far as i know you would only be able to work part time due to doing the hours of been his carer. They dont make it easy for people. They get you either way.You dont get more money after they give in one hand and take out of the other.
Talk to the citizens advice and they will explain.
Hope that helps

Carers Allowance is really for people who are unable to work due to their caring role.

But DLA is different. Mental illness 'is' a disability and if he fits certain criteria he may be entitled to some benefit.

It kind of depends on the amount of help/care he needs. Medication alone isn't sufficient. But if he needs you around for particular tasks then he may be eligible.
Can he go out on his own?
Does he need any reminding to do things e.g. wash, dress etc.
You can get advise from your local CAB, or if you have a local carers organisation they will be able to help.
have a look \link{http://www.carers.org/\here} for your local carers information service.
