I took citalopram for a week, then found out I was PG, so the GP told me to stop it. Ended up back on Prozac at about 30 weeks PG (but that's a whole long other story!). The whole ADs and PG thing is individual to each woman - i.e. a doctor would look at whether the possible risk to the baby of taking medication was outweighed by risk to the mother of untreated depression/effect on quality of life of mother.

thankyou, ive read online that in the research that has been done citalopram is in class c meaning that when adminsitered to animals it did have an effect whearas other ad's were safer or appeared so, I have an appoinment today so I will ask doctor what she thinks.

me23 my gp advised me against getting pregnant while on them and advised me to come back in when I wanted to try for another baby so she can "wean" me off them...BUT apparently if the risk of not taking them outweights the risk of taking them then other ad's can be taken during pregnancy...You gp will advise you today.

I don't have a specific dr, just get who ever is running our local surgery on the day....

Told two seperate dr's I was ttc and asked about effects of Fluoxetine (Prozac) and told it was OK.

Got pregnant and third dr said it wasn't OK so switched me to Lofepramine. No one else seems to be taking this, but everything I've read and what dr said was same as per Italian job about assessment of risk.

I started a thread called ' Pregnant and taking AD's, Please Help' - I think last viewed around 26th April, and there was a lady on there who said she was on Citalopram through two of her pregnancies without problems....
