Has anyone tried mindfulness to help with their depression? Would you recommend a real life course or are online courses any good?

lizum i tried it last year (self taught from a few books and online websites) then stopped when i took ill (mentally) the last six months. i doubt i will start again because i realise i have other symptoms (like dissociation) which mindfulness might exacerbate (only might). also buddhist meditation (one of the roots of mindfulness practice) and buddhism itself is not my cup of tea. yet there seems growing interest and research in clinical applications of mindfulness practice, including depression. some key authors (kabat zinn) include a CD with their books. and there are some reputable mindfulness centres in the UK (eg bangor in north wales). i do hope you get relief from depression and sorry i can't say anything definite about mindfulness' value from my experience of it.

I do a lot of sitting meditation and everyday mindfulness practice, have suffered from both depression and anxiety problems, found both very helpful. It takes a while to get into, and is possibly best learnt in a class.
