Hey all! Got prescribed Lamotrigine today. I'm to start with 25mg and then slowly increase it. Any good or bad stories with this medication? I'm very wary of these things as they often make me worse! Thank you in advance.

I'm on 200mg per day (100 morning and 100 evening). I find it to be relatively side-effect free.

While it can be used as an anti-epileptic; in bipolar and some other affective illnesses, it is a very effective mood-stabiliser and has good results with fewer side effects than other meds for the same thing.

You start off on small amounts as when you are first starting it can cause a rather nasty rash and can also give you twitchy legs. Starting on small amounts stops this from happening. Its very important that you don't start on two high a dose or up your dose except under the advice of your psych. When I started I was on 25mg the first two weeks and then went up by 25mgs weekly until I was on the full amount.

That's what I've been told to do babyheave. I think I prefer this to them just throwing me straight onto a high dose like all the other ones. Thanks Guys!

Hi there

I am on a few different types of meds, including Lamotrigine. I take 600mg a day (300mg in the morning and 300mg at night) for Borderline Personality Disorder and it has worked well for me. No side effects to report of either.

Thanks!
