I'm reluctantly on day 2 of venlafaxine, how long will it take before I am feeling better? I can't remember what it's like to feel ok.

Hi
I'm on my second tablet of venlafaxine today. I think it can take two weeks to start working sometimes longer.
I searched on it yesterday some people saw improvement quicker.
Are you taking it for depression or anxiety?

hi,

i'm on it. it took a few weeks before i noticed a difference. i'm on it for borderline personality disorder but i get low mood and suicidal tendencies with that and it really helped. be patient.

In my case it took quite some time before I felt better (needed my dose raising twice). Being completely honest as well I definitely felt worse before I felt better although this may have been due to swapping from another antidepressant.

Now though is a completely different story - I finally feel relaxed and happy for the first time in years. Hope it works as well for you, definitely go back to the drs/psychiatrist if no improvement within a couple of weeks. Are you on the slow release version?

hi new I'm on 225mg of venaflaxine not sure what dosage ur on. I started with 150mg six weeks ago & it has been gradually increased. it does take a few weeks to start working. although I am also on quetiapine 100mg aswell.

I'm finding the night sweats the worst (although I can't tell which medication is causing this?) also I have a very short fuse at the moment & tend to get angry very quickly & loud noises are horrible.

newly enough going on about me! just give it a few weeks as most AD's can take unto 6weeks to show effect before you write it off. HTH

It takes about two weeks I think...I am on them as well and they are helpful.

i'm on 225mg venlafaxine in morning and 100mg quetiapine in evening, like painforlife. i would say it was a matter of several weeks before i noticed a difference than a couple. make sure you don't miss a dose as you may suddenly and temporarily feel worse. i'd like to know if venlafaxine is considered a stimulating, get you going type drug aswell as an AD. i'm not sure.

coxspippin · 08/03/2013 09:39

yes new, how are you, and how are you finding the venlafaxine?

eminemmerdale · 08/03/2013 09:44

Hi there - I have been on them for several years now - they are the only thing that make me feel 'normal'. I can't remember how long it took, certainly no more than a week or two. I'm on 75mg a day now, down from 150. The problem is, as has been said, if you miss a dose or two, you do feel very 'odd' - I laways know when i've forgotton one as I feel very dizzy and woozy. However, i am resigned and happy to be on them for as along as it takes - I never want to feel like i did before :(

I have been on venlafaxine for 14 years, it took a while to kick in but it worked well until I felt I wanted to come off them which I have been trying to do for about 6 years, I have been on the lowest dose 37.5mg for most of the 6 years after weaning myself down, but I can not get off them all together the withdrawl is awful, I keep trying but the "electric brain shocks" dizziness and awful bad temper after just 12 hours off them make me go straight back on them again, they are apparently one of the worse ones to come off :(

luckywinner · 26/03/2013 09:56

I've been on it for the past few years. I think it took a couple of weeks for it to kick in. The side effects died down after this too. I am coming off it now and have been lowering the dose by 50mg every 2 weeks and have had no problems as some have had re brain fizzes etc. I did get those when I forgot to take my drugs, which was horrid.
