I have dd 3.5yrs and ds 11mths. No PND after first and have been fine up until about three months ago when I noticed that I was having more mood swings, feeling exhausted, scatty, indecisive, tearful at the slightest thing, no libido, everything feels like a chore. I am more tearful than normal but not tearful all the time and am perfectly capable of looking after the children. After chats with dh I went to see my doctor who diagnosed PND after doing the "HAD test". Have been prescribed 5mg daily of Cipralex (generic is escitalopram). Still am not sure whether I have PND although plainly am not feeling myself. Wondering if there is another way through this. Anyone with any thoughts or encouraging words about this drug?

I dont know about this drug but I had mild pnd when dd was about 15 months and the GP prescribed Magnesium and Vit b6 and it was miraculous.

I must admit I was slightly surprised to be sent down the AD route straight away. How long did it take for you to start to feel better please Lucy? Were you in any doubt whether you had PND

I started feeling better after a month. I wasnt convinced at first that it was pnd, I thought it was only with newborns but Dr told me it can happen anytime up to 2-3 years. I finally accepted that it was pnd when I realised that I was getting no joy from my dd who previously I had idolised. In less than 3 months I was back to normal. You will feel better Smile

I started taking ad's when dd was 8 months old though i'd not felt right since she was about 4 months. I'm still on them now [lustral] but i'm not totally convinced that they suit me or are making me feel that much better. Hope you start to feel better soon. I don't know aanything about cipralex but it may be worth doing a search on here. I'm sure there have been threads about it in the past.

I was prescribed ADs when DD was about 8 months old. I started feeling better v quickly. I'll be taling them off in another month or so.

thanks for your comments - it would be helpful to know how long you were on them for. Lucy, being a fairly newish mumsnet member I am afraid I am not sure what "cat" means - did you mean call?
