Citalopram withdrawal

Hoping someone might be able to help.

I've reduced recently from 20mg having been on 40mg a before that. I've got down to 5mg everyday by cutting the tablet in half.before that I was taking 10mg every other day but was having symptoms on the second day, feeling dizzy etc.

Has anyone used liquid citalopram to reduce more slowly. Does it even exsist?

Otherwise how do I cut out the last 5mg a day?

Hi
I know a lot about this, but rather than repeat myself as I've posted this to lots of similar threads lately, I am being lazy and here is a link to a thread from last week about tapering: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/feeling_depressed/1551547-why-do-i-need-adps
I believe you can now get liquid Citalpram. The alternate day thing is really terrible advice, and is why you were feeling dizzy. It confuses the brain. I don't know what time scale you've used to cut down but it sounds like you may have gone too fast, but you may get away with it, if you start feeling really horrible it may be withdrawals in which case your best bet is to go back to full dose on liquid citalopram, stabilize for a few weeks and then do a much slower taper.

Maybe don't cut it out until the symptoms pass. I'd slightly up the dose (maybe go back onto 5mg every day until you feel normal on it, then drop a dose, maybe even drop one day in three or four. This isn't scientific, and GPs say it doesn't work, but in the past I've found playing around with the dose as you decrease it really helps.

Hello, I am new here (this is 2nd post) but thought i'd tell you that I was also on Citalopram, not for depression but dont want to talk about that yet. Anyway, I decided i wanted off it so I weaned myself off. I had to try twice because the first time was unbearable. The second time i knew what to expect and just stuck with it. Basically i halfed my dose for a week then halfed it again then stopped. During this time the worst side effect was the dizzy feeling but it was more like head flutters. I couldn't focus and had to shake my head to make it stop. One night i got very drunk and had the worst head flutters, i was crying and shaking. Fell asleep in my drunken state and woke up absolutely fine and never looked back!

Thank you so much for your replies and the link. I'm OK at the moment on the 5mg a day, as you say it's the every other day that was the killer.

I'm happy, with no low moods, it's just the dizziness. I will ask again at the drs about a slightly different prescription for the liquid so I can taper more slowly from here.

Being pregnant doesn't help the sick feeling!!
