Hello,

I've had pnd since the birth of my son 7 months ago. The doc has tried me on 4 different types of ssri antidepressants with no success. So now he's trying me on lofepramine. I've been on 70mg per night for the last week and tonight I have to start taking x2 70mg of lofepramine.

Please can anyone advise when I should start to feel the benefits of this medication as my pnd and lack of sleep because of it is really getting me down and just want to feel well again very soon and start to enjoy life again which I'm struggling to do at the minute.

Please advise?
Thanks
Mich x

Lofepramine is an activating ad rather than a sedating one. Amitryptilene or chlompiramine would make you sleep. These are both tca's like lofepramine

Thanks :-)

Do u think lofepramine will help my anxiety soon as I think that's what's keeping me awake?

I don't know x sorry. They usually take two weeks to work at least. How was your pnd mainfesting itself? Were you agitated or lethargic?

Lofepramine works mainly on noradrenaline which is meant to be related to anxiety so hang in there.

Is the anxiety showing any signs of getting better?

2 failed meds should mean a referral

I was on lofepramine years ago....contrary to orangesandlemons (sorry for contradicting) it DID help me sleep (I hadn't slept for years due to nightmares about my past) and it did make me less anxious. Took just over a fortnight. I was put on this after years of SSRI's not working...and it changed my life. Hang on in there for the fortnight and if no improvement go back and ask to see a specialist-pref someone who specialises in PND.

Thanks all,

Still feeling the same at the min. Its nearly 3 weeks so maybe I need to give it a bit longer?

Does anyone know if I can take magnesium with vitamin b complex to help with the sleep and anxiety until the antidepressant eventually kicks in?
