Hi. I am hoping you can help me. I have been on this for about 6 to 7 weeks now. I started on 10mg then went up to 20mg after a week. After the initial awful 2 weeks, I feel pretty good.
What I was wondering, how do you know if you are on the correct dose. I saw my Dr who aksed me to fill in a questionaire, and I showed lots of improvement from the first time I filled it in.
How many of you are still on 20mg, or why did you go up to 30mg.
Yes, I am an anxious person, so am anxious that I am on the max dosage I eant to be on. I have confidence in my Dr, so she must think i don't need to take any more!
I read that your size can effect the dosage, and I am a size 8-10.

Trial and error. I vary between 20mg and 40mg depending on how I feel.

The question is - do you feel OK? Better? Less anxious?

I would say if you only feel pretty good then I would consider upping it again. You don't sound sure that you feel as good as you could IYKWIM. I stayed on 20mg for a while but hadn't felt good in so long I didn't realise what I was missing. I am on 40mg now and am literally a different person to the one I was last year. I can tell when it is too much, you could always drop it back down if you decide you want to.

I was on Citalopram for 18 months after I had my dd started on 10mg, gradually worked my way up to 40mg the highest dosage. I realised I needed a higher dose when I started to feel the same as when I wasnt on them. Tired all the time, not wanting to move out of the house, not wanting to get dressed. If you still feel depressed I would say you need to be on a higher dosage, but if you feel better on them your probably on the right dosage. I am pleased to say I am now off them and have been for about 4 months now and I feel so much better, so you will get there! HTH

When I was on citalopram solely, I asked to increase the dose when I still had depressive symptoms.
That was the second time I had been on it though and the first time, twenty mgs had worked wonderfully for me.

I started on 20mg and went up to 40mg when I was still feeling pretty rubbish on the dose I was on. If you are feeling better on the dose you are on then I should think it is right for you at the moment. My mistake with it was to cut down way too fast and then need to take ADs again - the next time I stopped taking them over well over a year, once I had been feeling "normal" for about 6 months and have now been off them for nearly 4 years Smile.

I think I wondered about going up to 60mg at one point but didn't ever take that dosage.

CrazyBabies · 21/08/2012 17:35

Thank you all for your advise. I hadn't realised that its upped in 20mg doses - just read you go from 20 to 40. My thoughts had been that maybe i needed 30mg!!
I have only had a couple of days where my mood has been lower, so perhaps i am on the right dosage. Only been taking it for 6 weeks I worked out so probably beginning to feel the benefits a lot more now. Seeing doctor again in 2 weeks time.

Hi Crazy
I think it can be upped in 10mg or 20mg.
I started on 10mg then upped it to 20mg and now I take 30 mg.

SrirachaGirl · 21/08/2012 23:46

I've been on it twice and I'm convinced that after a while the positive effect sort of wears off and leaves you with kind of a flat/apathetic state of emotions (that may be just my experience). I don't want to keep taking higher and higher doses (my max is 20mg) but don't want to try going off it altogether Confused.

Sriracha girl I felt like that, like you felt numb about a lot of things you'd normally feel excited about. This started about 12 months after I'd started taking them, so I think maybe its one of the side effects.

bettyblueshoes · 22/08/2012 16:17

@Sriracha and katie. Me too. I will discuss with my DR tomorrow and let you know what he says.
