Hoping this show might go somewhere towards stopping the over casual use of the term OCD!

CuriousMama · 24/07/2012 22:10

DS1 who's 14 is watching with me. He's just told me he has it Shock He doesn't like walking on cracks makes him feel dirty. Plus he likes his line of vision to be tidy when he's on the computer or a game. He just told me his ipod stops him from 'seeing' the cracks Sad Blimey tv is useful at times isn't it?

I think a lot of people have it to some extent but real OCD affects lives.

OP posts:
CuriousMama · 24/07/2012 22:13

I feel a bit crap now. I should've noticed.

Mollydoggerson · 24/07/2012 22:16

Curious Mama I wouldn't worry too much, the cracks on the footpath is very common, not a definite indicator of OCD.

CuriousMama · 24/07/2012 22:19

Oh right that's good then. He is mildly dyspraxic, undiagnosed but has a few traits. Not sure if that could be linked?

I'm watching this now and it's fascinating.

The phrase 'I'm a little bit OCD about xyz' has become such a throw away comment these days. Yes, I have habits that I hate to break (my washing HAS to be pegged out with matching pegs and I'll go and change them if someone else has got it wrong) but it doesn't ruin my day if it doesn't happen even if it will bug me till I can change it.

I think there's a lot of awareness about this that still needs to be raised.

worryingwillow · 24/07/2012 22:20

He doesnt necessarily have OCD so dont feel crap.

I suspect I do but cant / wont self diagnose.

CuriousMama · 24/07/2012 22:31

Oh this poor woman Sad

Sparklingbrook · 24/07/2012 22:34

This is so sad.

CuriousMama · 24/07/2012 22:35

Her face lit up that Jon got it about the dust.

It's fascinating. My DH considers me to have a mild form of OCD even though I don't feel that myself. But DH is adamant and feels he has diagnosed me.

That poor woman, it's awful.

GaryTankCommander · 24/07/2012 22:37

Aaahh sandstorm that's it... Habits! I have habits. That poor woman though, to effect her life so strongly, it must be so difficult for her.

CuriousMama · 24/07/2012 22:38

Dp's told me he has things he keeps in that he thinks are OCD Shock He hasn't told me though will just wait and see what they are? (and try not to pry)

This programme is like therapy here at the moment.

Oh that poor, poor woman. I totally get the 'if I dont do x then y might happen' and the thing is youre so ground down by the relentlessness of it all that you never have the energy to tackle it and say 'well lets see if y happens' because the stress is just too much. Im not anything like as bad as people on this show though, or possibly even as bad as JonR.

CuriousMama · 24/07/2012 22:39

Jon has lush eyes hasn't he? Blush

I tried to explain to a maternity care worker I had OCD and was specifically triggered by health-related stuff, particularly in relation to potential dangers to my baby son, and she just brushed it off saying "oh we're all a little bit OCD" and proceeded to go through the cot death guidelines in great detail!

CuriousMama · 24/07/2012 22:46

thunks!! that's terrible.

OP posts:
worryingwillow · 24/07/2012 22:54

Oh thunks :( are you ok now?

Yes Jon has lovely eyes and a very sexy laugh and I just feel a bit sorry for him tbh. I wonder if he'll ever manage a relationship given that he can't have anyone in his 'space'??

GaryTankCommander · 24/07/2012 22:55

So sad...

CuriousMama · 24/07/2012 22:55

Sad This is truly awful.

OP posts:
worryingwillow · 24/07/2012 22:56

Oh that's so sad about that boy and his mum. She seems lovely. I don't know about being 'born' with OCD though tbh...

thunksheadontable · 24/07/2012 23:16

Actually not that bad! Things were pretty bad in pregnancy but I have been on meds for 5 weeks and things are settling. Not entirely. Good days and bad days but a million times better than before...
