Too scared to take Paroxetine-will it make me freak?

I know I only posted about this lastweek, but the day of first dose is getting closer and I am getting more and more terrified.

Very few options left. Paroxetine recommended by psych. Been on many failed meds (well not failed, but emotional side effect made me worse), this is kind of last chance saloon.Am starting at 10 mg for 2 weeks

Last two Sri's I tried turned me a different kind of crazy and were pure hell in different ways.

Currently tapering off totally ineffective mirtazapine, for doomsday on Thursday. Am terrified after last experiences. Will it disturb the already disturbed bats in my belfry even more ?Sad

I'm putting my personal views of paroxetine to one side right now. What makes the docs think that you won't react this this the same as you reacted to other SSRI's ? Do you have any suicidal thoughts? Paroxetine is famous for making these worse.

Like you I am very nervous of medications my pych reccomended seroxat, I started on 10mg to break in gently at first I am on a much higher dose now I felt more depressed at first but this only lasted a week before I started to feel better but I have had no side effects except weight loss and decreased appetite (which I could do with losing a few pounds) and for me its been great.

Crawling · 17/07/2012 08:48

You probably know but just in case seroxat is paroxetine.

I have had them on mirtazashit and also on the two weeks I was on Escitalopram. I nearly had the crisis team out then, that's why I couldn't carry on with it.

I wasn't in the least suicidal before either of them.Crawling how longdid you stay on 10mg?

I stayed on for 4 weeks and then it was doubled and double again but when it was upped I didnt feel worse or have any other side effects, just remember to try and give it 4 weeks.

Although I have to admit my mood still wouldnt get completly better so I was put on 100mg of Trazodone as well which is a Tetracyclic and puts me to sleep at night and boosts my mood every day.

orangeandlemons · 17/07/2012 09:28

My problem is anxiety, and paroxetine is meant to be the drug for that.

Trazadone turned me insane too Sad

In which case I would say Paroxetine is brilliant for that I had anxiety and depression and the paroxetine stopped the anxiety but the depression was still there the trazodone stopped the depression in my case it was stopping the anxiety at 10mg.

I was on paroxetine for 12 yrs for anxiety and it did work but CBT worked better. The problem arises when you want to come off the damn things. They stopped me from feeling low but the also stopped me from feeling the highs as well. Nothing much bothered me. If someone told me they had to remove my leg I would say "that's ok I can hop".

orangeandlemons · 17/07/2012 17:16

Wicketypitch, I have had clomipramene in the past which was amazing in terms of anxiety and depression. It's the second line drug for anxiety after paroxetine.

It's a tca so no horrible emotional sideeffects, but I ate my head off on it. WishI could take it

Ask for the liquid form then you will lessen any side effects if you increase amount gradually. I have taken it so chat some more if you want.

Hi. I've been just about getting by with anxiety for years now but a recent visit to my gp left me walking out with a prescription for this. They've been sitting on the kitchen table for a week now and I still can't make myself take them. I'm scared of them having weird side effects and not making me any better :(

Fuck fuck fuck. 7 days in and massive anxiety increase. Am only on 1/2dose.
Can anyone help? It started on about day 3, and has carried on until worse today. No fluctuations, just steady increase in anxiety Sad
