Returning to work on a phased basis

I have been off work for 10 weeks with depression. I am feeling so much better now and am ready to go back.

I work full-time so my doctor suggested a phased return to work so I don't overload myself and feel bad again. My boss has been great and has agreed.

But I need to come up with the proposal e.g. so many hours in week 1, week 2 etc and I really have no idea what's appropriate.

My boss has been great so I don't want her thinking I'm taking the mick.

Has anyone else done this?

Start with one day in the first week - maybe towards the end of the week so the gap is not so big. Then two weeks the next week, perhaps a Tue and Friday, then 3 days and then back full time.

Alternatively if you live close-ish to work you could go in for 2 hours a day, then 4 then 5 then back to normal.

It's up to you, what you think will work.

It's worth bearing in mind what my boss said to me: Yes we need you back, but we need you back well so no point pushing yourself too hard.
