I would like to a get a recommendation for a counsellor who does CBT. Went to docs today and he said I would have to wait 10 weeks or over to get an appt.

I'm not really prepared to wait that long as i want to sort myself out so can someone recommend a counsellor who does private work?

I've had a look on line and see there are loads offering their services but I want to see a good one.

I'm looking in SW17, SW12 or SW19 or surrounding areas.
Thank you all

I can't help with a recommendation as I'm not in your area but I can give you some tips.

Pick a CBT therapist registered with the BABCP - www.babcp.com/Default.

Have a chat to them on the phone first, ask them about their experience and what kind of things they have helped people with.

If you like the sound of them book an initial session. Any decent therapist will be happen to see you for a one off at first to see if you gel. If you don't hit it off, don't feel guilty for not continuing, just try the next person on your list.

CBT is good for dealing with specific issues and thought patterns, less good for very deep and meaningful things that would benefit more from psychotherapy. So think if it's the right approach for you
