Going on holiday just seems too much like hard work

I am off work just now with anxiety and depression although hoping to go back in next few weeks. We are going on holiday today for a week - it's been booked for ages.

I know I should be excited about it and it will probably do the world of good. But all the getting ready just seems like such a hassle. I'm lying on my bed just now when I should be getting organised.

I have to drive to the airport tonight which I'm really anxious about. I can't even decide how much money to take or how much to change into currency and how much to keep as sterling.

I know I'm lucky to be getting a holiday so I probably just need a kick up the bum!

yes, but not for the reasons you suspect :o

Going on a holiday IS hard work. Even when you're well. Do you have another adult going on this trip to uncerimoneously dump all the responsibility on? If so, then THEY can do the packing, the money changing, etc.

If not, we can talk you through it-- either here, or on chat.

Re driving to the airport: call a cab company and find out how much that would cost, vs what airport parking will be. It might be cheaper to just book a cab, and it will be less hastle :)

Re packing: do you have a credit card? If so, then that plus your passport is all you really need ;) Everything else just makes it easier (at least, that's what i tell myself when I have travel angst)

Do yourself a big favour. Forget about all the musts and shoulds. Particularly the should be excited bit. You're not. Period! Going on holiday when anxious and unwell is very hard work and not always fun. You may well relax and have a good time when you are there.

Where are you going? If you stay in Europe don't worry about taking much money, you can use cash points.

Set an alarm clock for half an hour, do some packing then take a break.

Get some Rescue Remedy from pharmacist, Holland and Barratt or big supermarket.

Thanks folks. Our airport hotel and car parking is already booked and DH doesn't drive so I'm kind of stuck with that.

I'm sure I'll enjoy it - if I could just click my fingers and be there!

We're not leaving until this evening so I'll just take my time today and I'm sure it'll all come together.

Hi just trying...we went on a holiday last year and I can tell you I was feeling all the same things you are now. It's it stressful even when you don't have anxiety. It will b worth it once you are there though Grin

Where are you off too?

I am going away again in 3 weeks and the stress is starting to build already, but I know I'll b fine once there by the pool with drink in hand (soft drink that is) Smile x x

We're going to mainland Spain - Costa de la Luz. Keep looking at the brochure to try and get excited about it!

Made it to the airport hotel with only one misap on the way. I did lose my cool slightly with DH as I was getting stressed and he was just sitting there not even trying to soothe me.
But, to be honest, I probably need to lose my cool with him a bit more often!
