Bit worried about DH...

He has as long as I have known him and apparently all his life, struggled with what seems to be a pretty bad sleep disorder.

He sleepwalks and has waking dreams too...where he thinks he has woken up...has his eyes open but then something happens to make him realise he is in fact still asleep and dreaming...nightmares usually...nasty and odd ones.

He regularly gets out of bed in the middle of the night and I often find him staring at something that isn't there...like last night...he leaned over me and pretty much sat on me to look out of the window as he was convinced there was an elavator running up and down outside the window...he also "sees" lights "running in strings" around the walls...and cables and he will get up to try to find their source....same with imagining there is something in the house out to get him...

the only thing that stops me thinking this is some kind of pychosis, is the fact that he is ALWAYS asleep. He once knocked himself out on the toilet when he leaped out of bed and ran at top speed downstairs and then he must have got dizzy and fallen...I found him in a heap with a huge bump.

He doesn't drink regulalrly...maybe a few pints every three weeks or so...no drugs at all...very fit and healthy....it's worse when he is worried or stressed but it basically never goes away.

I suppose it's the nature of these episodes that is bothering me...the fact that there seems to be some paranoia involved. Can anyone advise? I have told hm to see the doctor but he isn't keen though think he will go if I push him to.

There are lots of different types of sleep disorders. For example here: Good old Wikipedia.

Does any of that sound familiar?

I would get him to the doctor, to be honest. Especially if he has any symptoms of sleep apnoea, which might need to be treated.

Thank you Jean I followed a couple of links on the Wiki page and came up with Hypnogogia...right down to the trails of lights it seems to be what DH has....I can show him now and he may feel better that it's common...though he seems to have it badly.
