Anyone any experience of coming off escitalopram and onto fluoxetine?

Been on escitalopram since November ish and its not helped, DR is reluctant to up the dose from 10mg as i have a very slight irregular heartbeat (every now and then i miss a beat and then compensate with an extra one the next time) so i've been put on fluoxetine, starting at 20mg.

How did it affect you coming off one and onto the other? Did you get any withdrawal effects? Did it take long for fluoxetine to work? Did you put weight on? WHat side effects can i expect?

I have tried many different ADs - Venlafaxine, Mirtazapine, Citalopram, Sertraline, AMytriptyline and most recently Escitalopram.

I have 3 Escitalopram left and Dr said no to take one tonight and then have one every other day until they are gone - miss a day and then start the Fluox.

I'm not under a psychiatrist (yet) just the GP. I've been referred to CMHT.

I dont know about the change over effects but I have just started fluoxetine 20mg. I felt them after about 10days and after 2 weeks I noticed a more balanced effect. Been on them for 4.5 weeks. My gp did tell me it can take up to 6 weeks for them to really settle in.

Side effects, yes ive put on weight but ive been comfort eating recently and not motivated to take up more exercise so I think lifestyle is more to blame for that. I felt a bit spaced out for a while and sometimes a bit sickly but they have all gone now. I am anxious but I was anxious before I took them so not sure if thats just me or them.

Good luck but just stay strong, be kind to yourself and know they will be in your system soon.

I moved from citalopram to fluox and found it much better. I lost weight on it. I think side effects can differ person to person. I had problems with sleeping on cit (actually did not sleep at all while taking it) and had to change. I just stopped one and started the other but hadn't been on the cit very long.

I've yet to start them cos still got a couple of escitalopram to go. Feeling extremely low. The losing weight side effect is a bit concerning as already underweight cos of eating issues. I don't mind but the gp might lol!

The thing is if you read the side effect list there are a few contradictions. It will effect people in different ways.
