Can't see the point of citralopram if the side effects are similar to the illness.

Ok so when depressed I have awful pmt,anxiety grumpiness and insomnia. On citralopram I have awful pmt, grumpiness and insomnia. Is there any point? I was hardly suicidal and I am certainly not going to keep increasing my dose. I am only on 10mg but it took a lot of encouragement to get on that. I don't want to be a zombie. I'm not sure about all this ad stuff.Mabe I need to feel things as they arise. I have had some shite things happen to me and meds aren't going to solve that.
The only thing is that I'm less anxious when driving. i have only been taking it for 2 weeks to be fair. Oh yes and my period has started early.

Keep going. The side effects do go

I'm just left with getting hot flushes occasionally and very vivid dreams which I can cope with

What Dolly said. The first few weeks on it were hell for me and I nearly gave up. I'm so glad I didn't. They changed my life. Now just the vivid dreams and feeling hot sometimes. So worth it.

I know exactly what you mean though.

Shite first 2-3 weeks, but when they kicked in, i was a changed person so i woud encourage you to keep going.
10 mg is a small dose.

A couple of things...

The dose may not be high enough....if they want to increase it, go with it.

They absolutely do not make you zombified, when they begin to work, you will feel and see clarity as you havet seen it for ages...really, i promise.

They may not suit you, if this is so, there are loads of different ad's out there, you will find the right one for you.

All of this form some one who resisted any kind of medication for 3.5 years...refused point blank to take any "of that shite" were my actual words to my GP.
Thanks fucking God i finally got so bad i agreed. They didnt just change my life, they saved my marriage, my relationship with my child and allowed me to become me again.

So, do it, do it girl.....

10mg won't do much just get your system used to the meds I didn't feel any better until I was on 20mg give it time. I never wanted it but wasn't given a choice by my GP I can see it now I was heading for a breakdown in October/November without them I wouldn't of come through these last few months.

My GP said that Citalopram takes the rough edges away, enabling you to get on with everything. I do feel much calmer and braver.

a) 10mg is too low for most people
b) the side effects go after a few weeks

In the nicest possible way it sounds a bit like you're looking for reasons not to take it. Try sticking it out for a bit longer.

Thanks everyone; I will keep going and mabe up my dose. I have just been feeling hopeless. I am a single mum and I have made some very stupid decisions in my life which have resulted me being in a place where I'm not happy at all with my life. I just feels so trapped by it all and hope my tablets will give the the courage to change my life.

Also is it normal to have wierd periods?

Yes definitely mine disappeared altogether ! The GP said it was not supposed to affect them but I did research online and AD 's can affect periods .
