hi all
am currently on 75mg of venlaflaxine but being increased to 150mg. Am also now being precribed risperidone for paranoia not sure of dosage yet but will it actually help to make me feel any better???
I am fed up of being so low and feeling so sick at thought of going out. When I do go out it tends to only be to places I know. If I do something different from the norm then I feel sick for 2/3days before and have paranoid thoughts/ physical anxiety symtpoms. Paranoia is ongoing and has been for past 2 yrs as is the anxiety and depression but I just dont see how meds are going to help. The only time I felt slightly normal was when pg with DD last year and I was completely off meds. Sorry am rambling and not making sense just dont know where I am going at the minute.

have checked the archives - the main thread on here relating to risperidone is this one:-

from the SN board.

I think you're probably more likely to find info on this specific med on Babycentre PND board. I wouldn't read too much into what they are prescribing you - I remember my gran ended up on Haloperidol(!) as well as Dothiepin for severe depression.

nemo, try not to worry about what the drug is usually used for, as its not unusual to prescribe for diff symptoms, it doesnt def mean that they think you are bi-polar, but if you suffer from paranoia, the drug can help as it also helps the paranoia which comes with mental health disorders.
risperidone, should ultimately help your paranoia as that is its prime use, but if you have no change in symptoms, ask for a diff med as there others.

meant to put other mental health disorders.

well risperidone is an anti-psychotic so I guess they think it will help with your paranoia. It is an a-typical which means it has less side effects than older types of these drugs and that is why it is favoured by many psychiatrists. How effective it is though is another story. Hope it works for you.
