Citalopram and weight gain

I have been on 40mg of citalopram for 6 months and I can't stop eating, have put on going on for 2 stone now. I can't afford to put anymore on as I was already overweight. It's like I am too happy and enjoying eating too much! I am still exercising a lot but nothing like enough to counteract the amount of food I am eating...

Has anyone else had this problem? Would changing to another AD help or does it mean it is time to reduce the amount of citalopram?

I took Citalopram on & off for about 5 years & can't say that it had that effect on me - but I was on a lower dose. I think it is mentioned as a possible side effect. Maybe it is time to talk to your GP about reducing the dose a little - particiularly if you are feeling better?
Could you change the types of food you are eating too?

Yes I take citalopram and have never felt unhealthier! It made me gain weight and lose any energy levels I had left, but it does help me sleep and deal with the day...... I have tried several other types of ADs and have found them all to generally to have a negative effect upon my weight....

which of course ADDS to depression! I am currently on 60mg a day, so anybody with any tips please? anchovies -we have to hang in there I guess?
